Project Description

The Volcanic Cenozoic Atlas of Greece was a scientific mapping project documenting and spatially referencing all known Cenozoic volcanic formations across the Greek territory and Aegean island arc.

My contribution involved:

  • Building the GIS spatial database from digitised geological maps and field survey data
  • Classifying volcanic formation types (lava flows, pyroclastic deposits, calderas, etc.)
  • Designing cartographic outputs for the printed atlas in ArcView
  • Geological analysis using the Atlas of Cenozoic Volcanism in Greece application.

The resulting atlas was used as a reference by geological survey institutions and researchers studying the Hellenic volcanic arc.

Skills Used

  • ESRI ArcView 3.x
  • Geological data digitisation
  • Cartographic atlas production
  • Spatial database design
  • Visual Basic
  • Origin Statistics
